Manischewitz Borscht with Beets 24 Oz (Pack of 2) Tasty

My friend's borscht is a hearty dish, fit for cold weather comfort, but now, with the arrival of spring and warm weather, I want a lighter, beets-only version-more like the kind sold in the jars, but thicker, richer and more flavorful. I've experimented with several recipes and I love this version with orange and mint.

Place the beets, water, salt, onions and garlic in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then cook on low heat for 1 hour. Add the lemon and sugar and cook for another 10 minutes. Remove from heat. At this point if you want to add the egg, do so gradually but stirring constantly. Keep stirring to prevent the egg from curdling.

Prepare Parve Creamy Chilled Borscht. Heat the olive oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the beets, and cook until they begin to soften, about eight to 10 minutes. Add the garlic powder, stirring to combine. Pour the Manischewitz borscht into the pot. Bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the beets are soft.

Instructions. Wash and peel the beets and cut into fine dice or grate on the coarse side of a grater. Place in a saucepan with the juice of ยฝ lemon, a pinch each of salt and sour salt, and the 5 cups of water.
